Changes

Filed under: My Life — thesuperwomenblog @ 3:24 am

This past weekend I did something I haven’t done in a long time. I CUT MY HAIR. Now those who know me really well knew that I always and only cut my hair when I was going through something dramatic (or at least that is what it felt like at the time) in my life. After a while I just decided I didn’t want to associate cutting my hair with something negative in my life. So I began to grow out my hair.

Then for the past couple of weeks I’ve talking about cutting my hair. I first decided that I would wait for my birthday in June but then I saw this hair cut in this month issue of Essence and I knew I had to cut my hair. This time around cutting my hair was about the positive and not the negative. I was running away but I was celebrating be comfortable with me. Loving me for who I am and the life God gave to me. Realizing that I am much more stronger than I give myself credit for, The hair cut was the start of celebrating me.

As Super Women I feel we many times forget to celebrate ourselves and quick to neglect that without our mental and physical health we can do nothing. Celebrate your life and celebrate who you are. And even when no one understands God does. I thank God for allowing me to accept the changes in my life.

They Made My Day

Filed under: Family — thesuperwomenblog @ 3:17 am

Last weekend was one of the craziest for me. It had its joyful moments as well as painful. Yet I had to keep going. I made plans and I had things I wanted to follow through with. Some personal time got delayed or cancelled but I got the needed things done. When it was said and done I felt good but I still had certain things weighing heavy on my heart due to events that were out of my control. After all this I didn’t make it home until late and I did not hit the bed until 3a Monday but I leaned on the Lord and all was well.

So I woke up that morning and began my day as I got my daughter, her dad and I out and on to start our day.

The first one to make my day was my daughter Haminat. After dropping her dad off and waiting on her cousin to take him to school she just out of the blue said to me “mommy you are a good mommy. You dropped daddy of, then picked up Amari and you going to take us to school. I love you.” I so needed to here that and having that come from her just made it so much better. So I proceeded to drop them off and I watched as my cousin took her and her son into the school but not before she turned and said “I love you mommy.”

Then I proceeded to head to the office. My commute was the same as always. I got to the office to be greeted by the best voice mail message telling me that this person was proud of how I handled the situation over the weekend and how I stayed strong and just overall thank you (love you babe and thank you for always being my biggest supporter). I so needed to hear that. They both made my day and I am glad because they both are my strength and heart.

Always tell those that mean the world to you that they do. Those words are just what they may need to hear at that very moment.

Black Women Have High Eviction Rate – Essence.com

Filed under: Uncategorized — thesuperwomenblog @ 8:00 am

Good morning my fellow Super Women

Although I have the love and support of  my little one father I am still very much dependent on myself. I have lived with my mother for 29 years of my life and in July 2009 I moved out on my own. It was the most rewarding but would become one of the most scariest experiences in my life. Due to circumstances beyond my control I found myself in a space that I did not want to be in. A point that I almost lost my apartment. I was fortunate to get back on track and prevent that from happening but what about the women that are not that fortunate.

Below is a link for one of Essence Online Magazine hot news topics. It talks about this very thing.

Black Women Have High Eviction Rate – Essence.com.

Because of  prayer, loved ones and a game plan I was able to save my apartment. However, many women are not that fortunate. What would you do if this was you? Or what would you suggest be done to turn this situation around?

Making some serious changes

Filed under: My Life — thesuperwomenblog @ 10:15 pm

I promised myself that this year would be the year to make some real changes. Not a thought or a I should but some put it into action changes. One of those changes was to get back into a healthy mind set and body. I’ve problems with my knees since have my daughter in 04. It is 2010 and the pain has been getting more intense. And occasionally my knees would give way on me. So this pass Thursday I went for my yearly physical (which I learned I missed last year lol). I went in and they did my weight, temperature, heart, lungs and blood pressure. They even took blood to run the usual test. I spoke about my problems with my knees and after getting on the scale the doctor confirmed what I already knew. I was overweight for my 5’7″ frame. I weighed 206 lbs and I could not believe it. But on the other after the stressful year I had I could. So we spoke about the obvious things I needed to do. Some I already implemented before the visit. Like cooking at home more often. Staying away from the processed food. Adding more color from my diet and removing the white stuff. Then we spoke about becoming more active. Making sure I put in 30 min of physical activity 5 days a week. Normally I would of walked out of there sad and depressed but not this time. I was waiting on the okay to really get it moving. Also I am Catholic and this is the time of Lent for us. I dedicated myself to prayer and fasting and it just seemed that everything came in time.

I have a beautiful 5 year old and a man whom loves me. I am their support system just like they are mine. If I can’t be there for them then what. I am 30 years old and my knees are giving away on me. I still love to go out and dance. No way was I letting this take over me. I am taking over it. And I know with dedication and God I will do this.

What serious changes have you put into action so far this year?

Love Letter to My Lord

I keep hearing of this wonderful love

A love better than what any man can give

How I want to experience this love

That I have heard so much about

To see the look of pure joy on one’s face

When they speak of you

I get excited yet sad

Excited that I too

Can feel this kind of joy

Sad that

I haven’t yet experienced it just yet

But I have learned

The secret to feeling and obtaining that love

The secret for having that joy

Appear on my face

I just have to open my heart to you

Talk to you

Get to know you

I want to love you

Like I have loved no other

So Lord

Can you show me this love that I have heard so much about?

I Am Ready

Written by CTB

Today I feel so much love beyond belief. I didn’t think I would ever really know how this love would feel but each and every day I am surprised by how much I do feel it. And it is greater than I thought it would ever be. I am glad that I waited and trusted that it would come.

It is Here

It is here

And it was worth the wait

The love above all love

It is a feeling I can’t explain

When I feel lonely

It comforts me

When I am hurt

It takes the pain away

When I am lost

It lights my way

What love could this be I am talking about

Much greater than any man can give

And the best thing next to the love of my daughter

It is the love of God you see

It was there all along

I just need to open my heart to it

Once I did

It was completely revealed.

Happy Monday….Motivation

MOTIVATION

http://www.merriam-webster.com/netdict/motivation

1 a : the act or process of motivating b : the condition of being motivated
2 : a motivating force, stimulus, or influence : incentive, drive

The best way out is always through.
Robert Frost

He who hesitates is lost.
Proverb

Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I needed the motivation this week so bad. I stayed in the bed all day Saturday. And when Sunday morning came I was so tempted to do the same. So I gave thanks to the Lord for waking me up and after speaking to my cousin I knew it was time to get up and get out.

Have you ever had those mornings, days, weeks or months….which eventually leads to another year going by and you were not motivated to do anything. That has been me for a while now. I’ve become to comfortable with my life choices until things happened that woke me up. So now I am back to being proactive with my life. I will use the tools that I have in accordance w/ building a long lasting relationship with the Lord. Some days I fall short but I do my best not to stay in that funk. I look no more for the motivation of others for what shall I do when those around me lack the motivation to give. I must now be able to motivate myself and replenish what I have taken.

I found since I started these e-mails that it has been a huge part of my motivation process.  I haven’t been sending them out on a day to day basis as I started and that has caused me to feel bad in a way. This caused me to loose the motivation I needed to do this on a day to day basis. But instead of letting it go I am just going to keep on going. On the days I find that it is hard to get something out I will focus on what I can really say to my friends and family the next day. I will go to God and ask him to put a message in my heart when I don’t feel I have the words. All I know is that with all that is going on in this world we can not afford not to be motivated by something.

My main motivation in life right now is my daughter. She keeps me going. She is my little angel and my biggest test of them all. If I fail myself then I fail her. And I can’t do that.

You are my light in the dark

You are the sound I listen for when I am trying to find my way out

You are the laughter that fills my heart

You are the pulse that keeps me alive

You saved me from myself

You are too young to know it

But one day you will be old enough to understand

In you all that is good and pure I see in you

You are my motivation

Yep my little one

That is you!

Happy Wednesday…Putting action behind your dreams

Filed under: Daily Motivational E-mails — thesuperwomenblog @ 5:46 pm

A Dream Deferred
by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
Like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
Like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

4 a : a strongly desired goal or purpose <a dream of becoming president> b : something that fully satisfies a wish : ideal <a meal that was a gourmet’s dream>
As I watch my daughter grow and listen to her talk about the things that she wants to do (sing, ballerina) I prayer that God     will never let her loose her ability to dream.  I had many dreams growing up and of course due to circumstances and my like the dreams talked about in the Langston Hughes poem “Dream Deferred”. But then I realized that the difference between a dream deferred and a dream that is alive and well is ACTION.

5 a : a thing done : deed b : the accomplishment of a thing usually over a period of time, in stages, or with the possibility of repetition c plural : behavior, conduct <unscrupulous actions> d : initiative, enterprise <a man of action>
We were taught to dream and dream big from little. But as we begin to grow and move up in life we are taught how to fit into society and make a living. Believe me there is nothing wrong with that, but many people spend their lives trying to fit in and making a living and never ever finding out if they have what it takes to live their dreams. I believe in my heart that our dreams play a big part of our purpose. We are born with gifts that God has instilled in us. Those gifts are apart of our dream which really for some of us is our Purpose in life. We are told as some point that this may be impossible to achieve. Or there are so many people in the world that are doing this why do you think you have a chance. Who said that we had to be a Beyonce or a Jay-Z to make a difference? We are all STAR’S in the eyes of God.

So I challenge you today if you still have dreams that you want to fulfill and those dreams are in line with your God given gifts then that may just be your purpose. Do something about it. Put some action behind it.

James 2:17-18 (New International Version)
17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Love you and have a blessed day!

Happy Tuesday…..Re-evaluate

Filed under: Daily Motivational E-mails — thesuperwomenblog @ 9:18 pm

RE-EVALUATE
Reassess: revise or renew one’s assessment
To evaluate again; to revisit or reassess
Reevaluation – the evaluation of something a second time (or more)

We are now into our second month of 2010. At the beginning of the year I am sure we all made some resolutions and/or goals for what we wanted to accomplish throughout the year. I know for myself I have several things that I am working on for this year and I decided to revisit and revised those goals. Whether they are short term or long term take the time to look them over. See if they are still inline with not only your plans but God plans for you. If you are someone like me that needs to constantly be reminded, look over your goals on a monthly basis. If monthly is not for you then schedule time to revisit those goals in 3 to 6 months time.

Also use this practice to renew your mind. Spend time with God on a daily basis. He is what will ultimately get you through and help you succeed!
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

Here are a couple of sites I came across that I am thinking of incorporating in my tracking and re-evaluating of my goals process.
http://www.mindtools.com/page6.html – Personal Goal Setting
Let me know what you think and if you found any of these sites helpful.

Love you and have a blessed day!
