Summer School/Camp Activities – What is your child involved in?

Filed under: Arts & Crafts,Events,Family,Parenting,School Activities — thesuperwomenblog @ 3:54 am

Today The Painted Pot came to my daughter school for a special arts & crafts activity. Now this is the second summer that I have come across The Painted Pot on her Summer School/Camp Calendar. So today I decided to finally see what The Painted Pot is all about. It is an art Studio with 2 locations in Brooklyn that is about helping your child bring out the creative side in them. And the cool thing is it is not only for the kids but they have events for adults as well.

To find out more about The Painted Pot locations and events check out the link below.

Airline Being Sued Because of Crying Baby – OMG

I have been traveling since I was a baby. My mother and father would travel back and forth to Trinidad and I spent most of my summers there.  We waited for our daughter to be a little bit older before we got on a plain with her and I am very happy that we did. We can count on her sleeping most of the trip (lol) and she is at that stage that we have enough to keep her busy. So when I read the below article this morning all I could say is OMG..Oh My Goodness lol. How can you sue an airline for something that they have no control over? And how can you feel away about something that a baby does. I realize that we have those moments that we just want to have quiet but when you are on a plan with other people you give up the right lol. At least that his how I feel.

I am sure that this Civil Law Suit will not go far but just the fact that this woman is blaming her hearing lost on a crying baby (and not the fact that she is just getting older) is insane.

How do you feel about crying babies?

Never Give Up On Getting The Belly Tight

Filed under: Health,Heath and Fitness,Motherhood,My Life,Parenting — thesuperwomenblog @ 8:05 pm

I was talking to a cousin the other day and she said to me “I think for women after you reach a certain age your belly is just meant to be a certain way”. We both laughed about it but it caused me to think. That really should not be the mentality.

So today  I received my WebMD – Everyday Fitness e-mail about loosing that belly fat. I know for me I really put on weight around the mid-section after I have my daughter. I know for some people it can be a medical conditon like cyst. But overall I don’t think that we should give up the fight against the “Muffin Top” as many call it. So I challange those of you today who are determined to loose that midsection or at least get to a point where your clothes feel comfortable and implement some of the suggestions mentioned. Let me know how it works out for you. I plan on working it out too. Because I don’t know about you but I am not ready to accept it…not yet.

Upper Respiratory Infection = Common Cold

It started Sunday the week before last. We were out in New Jersey and getting ready to go back to Brooklyn when my daughter suddenly came down with a fever. Now she wasn’t feeling well from Friday but I just assumed it was her allergies bothering her. She had no fever and maybe just a runny nose. Then Sunday she breaks into a fever and all I could think of is that she was sick about 2 weeks prior. I gave her some Tylenol when I got back into Brooklyn but it just seemed as if the fever would not break. That Monday I took her to the doctor and that is when he let me know she had an upper respiratory infection and prescribed antibiotics and cough medicine for her. I was happy to finally know what was wrong with her. Started the antibiotics and was told to give her motrin for the fever. It was the 4 longest days ever because the fever just didn’t seem to want to break. By Thursday she showed signs of improvement and today she went back to school.

I am so glad that she is feeling much better but what made the difference was me finding out exactly what was wrong with her and making sure that I took the proper steps in order for her to get better. So as a parent I wanted to share some information with you on what is an Upper Respiratory Infection, how does one get it (especially children) and how treat it.

I found some very helpful information on  http://www.childrenshospital.org. Here is some information on exactly what upper respiratory infection is.

What is an upper respiratory infection (URI)?
An upper respiratory infection (URI), also known as the common cold, is one of the most common illnesses, leading to more doctor visits and absences from school and work than any other illness every year. It is estimated that during a one-year period, people in the US will suffer one billion colds. Caused by a virus that inflames the membranes in the lining of the nose and throat, colds can be the result of more than 200 different viruses. However, among all of the cold viruses, the rhinoviruses and the coronaviruses cause the majority of colds.

Celebration of Motherhood

As I sit under the dryer preparing for my 5th Mother’s Day I think about how being a mommy really makes me feel. At times I get frustrated and out of sorts but the majority of the time it is great! When I hear my little girl call me mommy or when she says “I love you mommy” with a big hug after I drop her off those are the things that truly matter to me. To know that even when she is upset with me after I discipline her she still comes to me with love I hope to have that relationship with her forever.

I also think of all the strong mother’s around me. The ones that have been doing this far more longer than I. From my mom down to all the ladies in my life that held me down with some positive vibes about motherhood. I am honored and bless to know you. You help me see that no matter what I go through I will make it through. I thank God for all of the experiences and people in my life.

I honor the mother’s before me with this poem:

Haven’t earned my rank yet among you
But I am working on it
Haven’t experienced my full share of joyous moments
But I know there is so many more to come
Haven’t gone through my share of pain and heartache
But I prepare for it
Haven’t learned to lick my wounds completely and keep on moving
But I will learn how to do it
What I have experienced in my 5 years thus far as a mom is nothing
Compared to your lifetime of Motherhood
And even now you continue to get better and wiser at it
I only hope and pray
That God will bless me
With the strength and courage to continue on this road of Motherhood
With the same Grace and Courage that you have exemplified
I haven’t earned my rank yet among you
But I am so looking forward to the challenge.
Love and God bless

Getting a New Morning Schedule

I am so ready for my vacation next week I thought about all the things I wanted to accomplish while I will be aware. Besides family time and REST I need to re-work my daily schedule. Specifically the morning. I was reminded the other day of how important having a daily schedule that works is. So for right now I am just letting the rest of this week finish out but in the back of my mind I am thinking about how refreshed and ready to start my week off right I will be after a much needed vacation.

How do you keep your week flowing for you?

I was told about this yesterday morning so I decided to research it. Below is an article on Local Honey and Allergies.

Honey….The Answer to Some Seasonal AllergiesLocal Honey – The Answer to Some Seasonal Allergies? Here in Richmond, we are currently all covered in a blanket of yellow. The dreaded days in April where our world seems to be covered in pollen have set in. Pollen not only creates a mess in our outer lives, but inside, many of us are suffering…

Also, read information from Consumer Health Digest about those who had allergic reactions to the Local Honey (mostly adults). They tell you how to test it.

One other site provides information on where to get the local honey (try health foods stores such as Whole Foods as well)

Note: With anything natural still check with your doctor before using. If you already use honey in your home try it out(that is local honey)

When your child says “Can I go to another school”

My daughter father and I have been talking about getting her into another school for a while. It has increased lately because of some issues that happened on a personal level with other family members and the school. But this morning before I left the school my daughter came to me and asked me if she could go to another school. Under any other circumstances I would have pushed it to the side because I know how my 5 year old can be but because of my own feelings already I have been thinking about it since she said it.

Now I don’t have a problem with her teachers. It is because of them that she has gotten this far and I love how she has excelled but to be a Christian school and to have a principle who is always talking about God the moral sucks. You can tell the teachers are not happy and the principle never smiles. There is really nothing set-up to support the parents. And honestly I don’t have the time to initiate anything. But it would be nice to know that things like PTA is already established. I had a talk with my closest cousin last night about my god-daughter and the effort the school is putting in to make sure the parents are involved and the students perform or stay at the current levels that need to excel. I remember being in school and having that. I want that my our family. So I am on another mission now to find a school that not only my daughter is happy with but also her dad and I. But first thing first must talk to the other half.

Love yah and God Bless
